Ipvanish VPN Review

IPVanish offers virtual network services that include network management, content delivery and virtual private networks (VPN) backed by more than 15 years of experience. With locations in North America and Europe, IPVanish serves its global customers with quality service, competitive prices and secure networks. The IPVanish services provide secure and encrypted connections that are anonymous when viewed from the Internet. This protects the data and information and hides the customer’s IP address from third parties. The service securely hides all web traffic and information transmitted across the Internet. That includes passwords, websites, VOIP connections, e-mail, usernames and other Internet transmissions.

Pricing

IPVanish offers a month-to-month subscription pricing plan for $10.00 per month. Users can cancel their subscription at any time. With a low cost of $10.00, IPVanish feels that this is an extremely good value for the benefits derived from protecting the customer’s identity when using the Internet and VPN.

IPVanish Price Structure:

  • $10 Monthly access ($10/month)
  • $26.99 for 3 Months access ($8.99/month)

Protocol

IPVanish supports three main protocols: PPTP, L2TP and OpenVPN. Each of the three has their strengths and weaknesses. OpenVPN is the fastest and top choice for those using desktop systems that run Windows, Linux or MacOS X. However, it doesn’t support mobile devices and uses a third-party client for access to Android-based computers. L2TP is a slower protocol than OpenVPN but it does support Apple and Android mobile devices. PPTP is the fastest protocol but is less secure than the others. So, it is up to the customer to determine which protocol meets their needs and works with their specific computer or mobile device.

Customer Support

As part of the IPVanish subscription service, technical support is offered 24 hours per day every day of the year. The support is handled through an online form that is submitted and an e-mail response is provided back to the customer. The company also has a Live Chat service that is available from Monday to Friday during business hours. For those with common questions, their setup instructions page and their FAQ page on their website should address many of the basic questions. Other support is offered through the IPVanish support forum where other IPVanish users can provide assistance. Announcements are also shared via the support forum. It is recommended that users try the FAQs, setup instructions and the support forum before sending support requests via the e-mail form.

Guarantee

Users that want their money back within seven days of their original order can send an e-mail to the company with information about their order and a refund will be issued. After seven days past the original order, no refunds will be granted. IPVanish expects that most customers will be satisfied with the value of the services that they provide and will not have to ask for a refund.

Traffic & Bandwidth

Users of IPVanish are not limited to how much bandwidth they use and are not charged for bandwidth usage. This frees them up to take advantage of the benefits of IPVanish without any traffic or bandwidth restrictions. Users can access thousands of IP addresses but they can only connect with one individual IP address at a time.

Speed

Those using IPVanish will have differing levels of speed based on their location to the VPN servers. Speeds will be faster for those closest to the server of choice. The company has servers located in 16 different countries worldwide. Other factors that may influence the speed of the connection include the number of users on a particular server, the particular protocol being used and the specific routes that the content travels to and from the server. IPVanish users should select a server that is nearest to their location and nearest to the destination of the website or recipient that they are accessing. The speed of the protocols rank from PPTP and L2TP being the fastest to OpenVPN being the slowest of the three due to the added layer of overhead that it uses.

Supported Devices

Any device that can support OpenVPN, L2TP or PPTP protocols can use the IPVanish service. These protocols cover devices such as iPhones, iPads, Android-based tablets and other mobile devices. PPTP provides the widest availability but is less secure than other protocols. OpenVPN offers the best performance for desktops using Windows, MacOSX, Linux and Ubuntu operating systems. One drawback for this protocol is that there isn’t support for OpenVPN on mobile devices and the protocol requires a third-party client for Android devices. L2TP is ideal for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets using iOS and Android operating systems. However, L2TP is not as stable as OpenVPN on the desktop but still can be considered as an option.

Mobile APP

Ipvanish has launched Android App. All customers can use it for free. Find it at google play with ipvanish.

Supported Operating Systems

IPVanish offers an application that works with the Windows operating system that can be downloaded from the company’s website. To use it, the user must have Windows Installer 3.1 and Microsft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and the OpenVPN Tap Driver installed on their computer. IPVanish also has a Tunnelblick configuration file that is designed to work with the Mac OS X system. Tunnelblick can be downloaded from the IPVanish website at no extra charge. IPVanish has a Visual Guide that provides setup instructions for Mac users. These applications provide easy configuration for VPN. For Linux users, configuration will have to be done manually since software is not available.

Free Trial Period

IPVanish doesn’t have a free trial provision but they do offer a no questions asked, 7-day money back guarantee. Users that want a refund within the 7-day period can send an e-mail to the company with information about their order and a refund will be issued. Once seven days has passed of the original order date, no refunds will be granted.

Conclusion

As shown above, IPVanish offers a great product that gives the user the anonymity and privacy that they desire at a very reasonable cost. It supports the most popular protocols and operating systems. Those using IPVanish will find that it is a great product offering top speeds with the dedicated technical support to back up the product.

  3. Tried it, didn’t notice much of a difference than a normal firewall, but i may haven’t used it properly.

  4. I use this as it makes you very secure online in situations you can’t control. It didn’t slow me down or at least not that i noticed. If yo are looking to hide your info online, try it!

  5. Have you tried to switch your server yet? They have many servers in the same location. If you feel your connection is too slow. You should switch to other servers. Except there is only one server in that location..

  6. Speeds Australia to USA were fair. Speeds Australia to Europe were abysmal, in fact about 3Mbps compared to 13Mbps from another VPN provider. Cancelled service within 7 days, however ten (10) days later I’m STILL waiting on a refund.

    • I not sure if their network covers australia. Don’t see any servers listed on my ipvanish client. I’m getting some good speeds across the us and europe tho. Right now i’m clocked 10.62 Mbps connected to their amsterdam server. It was slower when I tested some other providers last month (hidemyass and expressvpn).

  7. Very slow speeds! I had to ask for a refund.

  8. The fastest vpn provider that i’ve used, by far. From what I understand, they own and manage their own backend network
